MEANING
As a child, a great day would include pulling up my green rubber boots and heading out at low tide to dig clams. With my shovel at hand, I picked out the perfect spot and started digging. I would often start sinking into the mud as cold salt water overflowed into my boots—this was all part of the fun. Nowadays, as I dip a fresh steamed clam into butter, I often think about the messy fun I had when growing up by the ocean.
